In this guide we will walk you through upgrading your PS4 Pro with an SSD. You'll need: • a Kingston A400 SSD 960GB • a Philips screwdriver • a USB flash drive. If you want to backup all your games, apps, and saved data you'll also need an external hard drive. If you want to move all your important info to the new SSD you need to start here. 1. Connect your external hard drive to the PS4 Pro. Make sure it is large enough to copy all your data. Then, power on your system. Go to settings, System, backup and restore. Select backup PS4. Then, press X to add a check mark for saving applications. Your PS4 Pro will restart and copy all your data. This process might take a few hours depending on how many game saves and other large files you have. 2. Make sure the PS4 Pro is powered down and unplugged. Pull down the cover tab on the back side of the PS4 Pro. Remove the screw holding the hard drive tray and slide it out. Now, remove the four screws holding the hard drive to the mounting bracket. Once that's done, place your Kingston A400 SSD in the mounting bracket and tighten the four screws. 3. Attach the SSD to the PS4 Pro by replacing the screw and slide the cover tab back on. 4. After the drive has been replaced the system software must be reinstalled. Using a computer, go to the Playstation website to download the latest system software. Your USB drive will need at least 1GB of free space to download the file. 5. On your USB drive create a folder called PS4. Inside that folder, create another folder named Update. Save the file into your new folder with the filename ps4update.pup. 6. Now, go back to your PS4 Pro and make sure it's powered off. Insert the USB drive into your PS4 Pro, then press and hold the power button for 7 seconds. Select Initialize PS4 Pro, Reinstall System Software, and follow the on-screen instructions. 7. Connect the external hard drive with your saved data. Then go to System, Backup and Restore, then select Restore PS4 Pro and select your backup file. In speed tests we were able to load Death Stranding from the Kingston SSD in 48 seconds while a standard hard drive finished in 1 minute and 10 seconds, saving you 31% of your time.

Wer mehr Speicherplatz wünscht, kann die Festplatte mit wenigen Handgriffen ohne Garantieverlust selbst tauschen. Anders als bei Microsofts Xbox dürfen Playstation-Nutzer die Festplatte selbst austauschen, ohne dass dadurch die Herstellergarantie verloren geht. Bei der PS4 Pro findet man den Festplattenschacht hinter einer Kunststoffabdeckung an der Rückseite. Diese kann man mit etwas Kraftaufwendung abziehen. Ab hier benötigt man einen kleinen Kreuzschlitz-Schraubendreher, um zuerst den Haltekäfig loszuschrauben und danach die Festplatte aus dem Käfig zu befreien. Der Einbau erfolgt in umgekehrter Reihenfolge. ►Platten zum Aufrüsten Die ab Werk eingebaute 2,5-Zoll-SATA-Platte hat eine Höhe von 9,5 Millimetern. Der Käfig nimmt auch dünnere 7-Millimeter-Varianten passgenau auf, aber keine dickeren Exemplare mit 12,5 oder 15 Millimetern Höhe. Das limitiert die Auswahl und die Maximalkapazität: Die größten Festplatten mit passenden Abmessungen fassen 2 TByte. ►Alle drei derzeit erhältlichen 2-TByte-Festplatten stammen von Seagate. Die Mobile HDD (ST2000LM007) kostet rund 100 Euro. Bei der Barracuda Compute (ST2000LM015, 100 Euro) und ihrer Nachfolgerin Firecuda Compute (ST2000LX001, 120 Euro) handelt es sich um Hybrid-Festplatten mit 8 GByte Flash-Cache, der Zugriffe auf häufig benötigte Sektoren puffert. SSDs versprechen schnellere Boot- und kürzere Ladezeiten, doch der dafür fällige hohe Aufpreis rechtfertigt das Umrüsten in unseren Augen nicht. Für 2-TByte-SSDs werden mindestens 500 Euro aufgerufen, also so viel wie für eine PS4 Pro und eine 2-TByte-Platte zusammen. Spielt Geld keine Rolle, so bekommt man mit SSDs mehr PS4-Pro-Speicherplatz als mit Festplatten, nämlich bei Samsung derzeit bis zu 4 TByte. Das 4-TByte-Exemplar der SSD 850 Evo (MZ-75E4T0B) kostet satte 1400 Euro – das Dreieinhalbfache der Spielkonsole. ►Neuinstallation der Systemsoftware Weil die PS4 (Pro) nicht nur Spiele, sondern auch ihr Betriebssystem auf der Festplatte speichert, muss man dieses bei einem Festplattentausch neu installieren. Dazu benötigt man einen (am besten FAT32-formatierten) USB-Stick und das Abbild der Systemsoftware, das Sony hier kostenlos zum Download bereit stellt. Dass auf der Seite nur von PS4 die Rede ist, macht nichts: Die normale PS4 und die PS4 Pro nutzen dasselbe Systemsoftware-Image. ►Achtung: Es gibt seit jeher zwei Varianten des Downloads, nämlich ein Update (rund 300 MByte) für Konsolen mit bestehenden Betriebssysteminstallationen und ein vollständiges Abbild (rund 900 MByte) für Neuinstallationen. Leider heißt die herunterzuladende Datei in beiden Fällen (und auch unabhängig vom Versionsstand) "PS4UPDATE.PUP". Nach einem Festplattenwechsel ist unbedingt das vollständige Abbild notwendig, welches nicht hinter dem "Update laden"-Button ganz oben auf der Sony-Seite steckt. Stattdessen muss man ganz nach unten scrollen, wo man es unter "So installierst du die Systemsoftware neu" herunterladen kann. ►Damit die Konsole das Update findet, muss es in bestimmten Unterordnern auf dem USB-Stick liegen: Der vollständige Pfad lautet "/PS4/UPDATE/PS4UPDATE.PUP". Anders als von Sony beschrieben muss man die Konsole nach einem Festplattentausch nicht grundsätzlich gezielt per langem Tastendruck auf den Einschalter in den abgesicherten Modus schicken: Die Konsole bemerkte bei uns das fehlende Betriebssystem und startete deshalb von selbst im absicherten Modus. Darin lässt sich dann die Neuinstallation – von Sony Systeminitialisierung genannt – anstoßen. ►Nach der Betriebssystem-Installation bootet die PS4 Pro und führt den Nutzer durch die Ersteinrichtung. Wer bereits ein PS4 hat, kann Daten und Spielstände von dieser übernehmen – sei es nun über einen externen Backup-Datenträger oder direkt von Konsole zu Konsole, wenn beide im selben Netzwerk stecken. Wer das kostenpflichtige Playstation-Plus-Abo abgeschlossen hat, kann seine Spielstände auch aus Sonys Cloud-Speicher einspielen und gekaufte Spiele erneut aus dem Playstation Store herunterladen – ganz ohne Zugriff auf das Alt-Gerät Ich übernehme keine Haftung für Schäden, die aufgrund falscher Ausführung entstehen.
