2024 BMW X5 Starting at $66.195 Highs Three good powertrain options, high-end cabin materials, cutting-edge infotainment tech. Lows Not as athletic as expected from a BMW, twin-turbo V-8 is desirable but expensive, available third-row seats aren't suitable for adults. Verdict The X5 is swift and swanky, with enough driving enjoyment to entertain on an occasional mountain pass. Overview It may not be as fun to drive as the Porsche Cayenne, nor is it as effortlessly smooth as the Genesis GV80, but the 2024 BMW X5 blends traits from both of those to create an agreeable—and agreeably luxurious—middle ground. From the outset, it's clear the X5 is going for broad appeal. Why else would BMW offer it with a trio of different powertrains, including a silky-smooth inline-six, an authoritative twin-turbo V-8, and an environmentally friendly plug-in hybrid? The SUV's cabin is lined with premium materials and, like other BMWs, includes cleverly integrated technology features like a slick-looking curved digital display that stretches nearly the length of the dashboard. This approach results in a luxury SUV so well-rounded that its few shortcomings are easily overlooked, and the X5 remains one of our favorite mid-size crossovers. What's New for 2024? BMW has sharpened the X5's exterior for 2024, including a revised front grille and bumper, new headlamps and taillamps, and updated wheel designs. The top-spec M60i model wears gloss-black exterior accents, quad tailpipes, and an M logo in the grille. Both the turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six and the twin-turbo 4.4-liter V-8 engines benefit from a new 48-volt hybrid system, and the six-cylinder has been massaged further to boost output to 375 horsepower. Despite changing its name from M50i to M60i, the performance-oriented model's horsepower stays the same at 523 ponies. Last year's xDrive45e plug-in hybrid variant has been replaced with a more powerful xDrive50e, which offers 94 more horsepower and 10 more miles of electric-only driving range, for 483 horsepower and 40 miles of EV driving. All X5s also receive a new curved infotainment display and BMW's latest iDrive 8 software interface, which is already scheduled for an update to iDrive 8.5 sometime in the summer of 2023. The X5 is also now available with the Highway Assistant hands-free driving feature that we first experienced in the new 7-series flagship luxury sedan. Pricing and Which One to Buy sDrive40i: $66,195 xDrive40i: $68,495 xDrive50e: $73,495 xDrive M60i: $90,295 Engine, Transmission, and Performance The 2024 X5 is offered with one of three distinct powertrains, each associated with a different model. X5s wearing the sDrive40i or xDrive40i badges are powered by a 375-hp turbocharged inline-six. The last time we tested an xDrive40i it made just 335 horsepower but still managed a quick 4.8-second run to 60 mph, so we expect a little extra hustle from the more powerful version. The plug-in hybrid xDrive50e comes with a turbocharged inline-six and an electric motor that combine for 483 horsepower. Last but not least, the M60i's 523-hp twin-turbo V-8 enables it to rush to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds. All three powertrains are paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, and none of them will leave drivers wanting for power in virtually any driving situation. The X5's refined ride and stable handling are hallmarks of this generation of BMW SUVs, as is its steering, which feels connected and direct. The Audi Q7 still has the X5 beat in this area, but it's a close match. Pitch the X5 into a fast corner, and it holds on reliably and rewards the driver with a predictability that's missing from the Mercedes-Benz GLE-class. Interior, Comfort, and Cargo Interior space is generous for adults in both the first and second rows, but the X5's optional third row is for kids only. Once settled inside, occupants are treated to a cabin lined with high-quality materials, plenty of charging points for devices, and—depending on the options chosen—myriad luxury features. Power-adjustable front seats with memory for the driver are standard. All models come with a power-adjustable steering column, heated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, a power rear liftgate, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and customizable ambient lighting. Massaging seats, remote start, soft-close doors, acoustic glass, a leather dashboard, and heated front armrests and steering wheel can make the X5 feel like a high-end luxury SUV but add a lot of dough to the bottom line. This is a Motormouth couple car review of the updated 2024 BMW X5 luxury SUV. What’s New? The 2024 BMW X5 has a thoroughly updated range of engines with 48-volt mild hybrid systems for 6 and 8 cylinder engines, the plug-in hybrid has more power and increased electric range, new exterior design elements including a new kidney grille, slimmer headlights and new taillights. It also has expanded standard equipment, a more modern cabin with a new tech forward interior featuring iDrive 8 with a curved display, wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto. Gone is the optional third row for 2024. We are driving the 2024 BMW X5 with the turbocharged 3L inline-six with a 48-volt mild hybrid system. It has an 8 speed automatic transmission 375 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque. It gets more power than the previous model, up 40 horsepower and 51 lb-ft of torque. The 2024 BMW X5 50e, the plug-in hybrid with a turbocharged inline 6 and an electric motor has more power and range than the previous model, it gets a combined 483 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque with up to 64 km/40 miles of EV range. The previous 45e only had 42 km/26 miles. The 2024 BMW X5 M60i with a twin-turbo 4.4L V8 and a 48-volt mild hybrid system, 523 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque. Standard AWD for all models but in the US, there is a rear-wheel drive model available for the 40i. There are some big changes to the interior of the 2024 BMW X5 with a decrease in the number of buttons and controls in favour of digital controls for various functions. It has a new 14.9” touchscreen with wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, a 12.3” digital driver display which is behind a single glass surface creating a modern design. Fuel economy, the 40i AWD model gets 10.1L/100 km, 23 MPG city and 8.7L/100 km, 27 MPG highway. The 2024 BMW X5 50e gets a combined 4Le/100 km, 59 MPGe. When the battery is depleted a combined 10.6L/100 km, 22 MPG. In Canada, the 2024 BMW X5 starts at $86,000, X5 50e $90,500 and X5 M60i $105,000. This is the new freshly facelift BMW X5, it has undergone a host of changes to update and refresh the model. It has a redesigned front end and different light clusters on the rear. Namely, the 2023 Mercedes GLE 450 ($88,375 in Canada, $73,000 in the US) and the 2023 BMW X5 40i ($91,100 in Canada, $75,885 in the US). Thomas and James are interested in how the new Mazda CX-90 compares to the Germans in a drag and roll race. After all, the Mazda undercuts the price of its competition by quite a good margin while still offering similar performance figures. How will this turn out? Lows Not as athletic as expected from a BMW, twin-turbo V-8 is desirable but expensive, available third-row seats aren't suitable for adults. Verdict The X5 is swift and swanky, with enough driving enjoyment to entertain on an occasional mountain pass. Overview It may not be as fun to drive as the Porsche Cayenne, nor is it as effortlessly smooth as the Genesis GV80, but the 2024 BMW X5 blends traits from both of those to create an agreeable—and agreeably luxurious—middle ground. From the outset, it's clear the X5 is going for broad appeal. Why else would BMW offer it with a trio of different powertrains, including a silky-smooth inline-six, an authoritative twin-turbo V-8, and an environmentally friendly plug-in hybrid? The SUV's cabin is lined with premium materials and, like other BMWs, includes cleverly integrated technology features like a slick-looking curved digital display that stretches nearly the length of the dashboard. This approach results in a luxury SUV so well-rounded that its few shortcomings are easily overlooked, and the X5 remains one of our favorite mid-size crossovers. What's New for 2024? BMW has sharpened the X5's exterior for 2024, including a revised front grille and bumper, new headlamps and taillamps, and updated wheel designs. The top-spec M60i model wears gloss-black exterior accents, quad tailpipes, and an M logo in the grille. Both the turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six and the twin-turbo 4.4-liter V-8 engines benefit from a new 48-volt hybrid system, and the six-cylinder has been massaged further to boost output to 375 horsepower. Despite changing its name from M50i to M60i, the performance-oriented model's horsepower stays the same at 523 ponies. Last year's xDrive45e plug-in hybrid variant has been replaced with a more powerful xDrive50e, which offers 94 more horsepower and 10 more miles of electric-only driving range, for 483 horsepower and 40 miles of EV driving. All X5s also receive a new curved infotainment display and BMW's latest iDrive 8 software interface, which is already scheduled for an update to iDrive 8.5 sometime in the summer of 2023. The X5 is also now available with the Highway Assistant hands-free driving feature that we first experienced in the new 7-series flagship luxury sedan. Pricing and Which One to Buy sDrive40i: $66,195 xDrive40i: $68,495 xDrive50e: $73,495 xDrive M60i: $90,295 We love saving money almost as much as we love great performance, and that's why we think the xDrive40i is the X5 to buy. It's got sports-sedan acceleration, comes with all-wheel drive, and is a relative bargain in this pricey class. We'd recommend adding the Premium package for its head-up display, LED exterior lighting, remote engine-start capability, and Harman/Kardon stereo system. Engine, Transmission, and Performance The 2024 X5 is offered with one of three distinct powertrains, each associated with a different model. X5s wearing the sDrive40i or xDrive40i badges are powered by a 375-hp turbocharged inline-six. The last time we tested an xDrive40i it made just 335 horsepower but still managed a quick 4.8-second run to 60 mph, so we expect a little extra hustle from the more powerful version. The plug-in hybrid xDrive50e comes with a turbocharged inline-six and an electric motor that combine for 483 horsepower. Last but not least, the M60i's 523-hp twin-turbo V-8 enables it to rush to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds. All three powertrains are paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, and none of them will leave drivers wanting for power in virtually any driving situation. The X5's refined ride and stable handling are hallmarks of this generation of BMW SUVs, as is its steering, which feels connected and direct. The Audi Q7 still has the X5 beat in this area, but it's a close match. Pitch the X5 into a fast corner, and it holds on reliably and rewards the driver with a predictability that's missing from the Mercedes-Benz GLE-class. Interior, Comfort, and Cargo Interior space is generous for adults in both the first and second rows, but the X5's optional third row is for kids only. Once settled inside, occupants are treated to a cabin lined with high-quality materials, plenty of charging points for devices, and—depending on the options chosen—myriad luxury features. This is the BMW X3! It received a mid-life facelift in late 2021, and Mat’s about to find out whether the M-Sport plug-in hybrid edition still stands the test of time against newer competitors such as the new Mercedes GLC & Genesis GV70. Well for starters, let’s check out the design. It’s relatively similar to the original X3, but there are a couple of design changes. Around the back, there are updated 3D-effect taillights, some real exhaust tips and an updated diffuser (which to be honest, is likely to have little to no effect). Around the side, there are bold creases across the doors and protruding side skirts to help with the sporty looks, and upfront there’s an updated bumper and a few new vents. Naturally, though, there’s a huge grille up front, which doesn’t do much for the looks. Step inside and there are only a few changes to the original X3. There’s an updated infotainment screen and full digital dials; otherwise, it’s all the same. That’s not such a bad thing, but when you consider newer BMWs come with a full-length, curved infotainment/dial screen, this already seems a bit outdated. Thankfully there are quality materials throughout most of the cabin, although if you reach a bit lower you may be met by some scratchy plastics. In this video, we’ve got our hands on the xDrive30e. It’s powered by a 2-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with an electric motor, which combines to deliver 292hp and 300Nm. BMW claim it will hit 60mph in 6.1 seconds, and it comes in at a cost of around £56,000. The BMW X3 range starts from around £47,000. But should you still choose it over the competition? And if you’re in the market for a plug-in hybrid SUV, is it really the smart choice instead of the newer GLC? Stick with Mat and see for yourself! FB: 🤍 IG: 🤍 TT: 🤍 Website: 🤍 0:00 - Intro - BAD: 0:54 - Expensive The X5 M60i starts at a whopping $89,300 The GLE53 starts at a whole 11k less - at 78,100 BUT that’s a straight 6, so let’s compare the GLE580, which is a much more comparable 85k And then there’s the Audi SQ8, which is kind of a competitor here, but the Q8 is a weird fit within the lineup - anyway the SQ8 starts at $95,500 and according to the Audi website currently you can’t even buy an RSQ8 so i think something weird is going on 2:10 - Naming confusion This LCI year for the X5 really shakes things up - you’re got AT LEAST a mild hybrid on everything and now the PHEVs are more robust, etc BUT there’s some confusion at the sporty-end of the lineup with the Ms Last year you could get an X5 M50i - which brought great power and speed from the addition of the 4.4TT V8 From there you would jump up to the X5M, and everyone knew what that meant - S designation M engine, reworked suspension, diffs, etc And from there you could squeeze out a little more performance from the X5M Comp But for 2024 there’s a big change There’s the X5 M60i and then a straight jump to the X5M Comp This is because almost nobody was ordering an X5M non-comp So now the M60i slots between the old M50i and base M, but gets a big engine upgrade we’ll talk about later But in any case, if you’re wondering why there’s no more M50 or no more M that’s why 3:13 - Nitpicks Custom ambient light only available in comfort mode (sport red, eco blue) Heated steering wheel no longer on the steering wheel Can’t fold the rear seats from the trunk - GOOD: 4:18 - The Engine This new M60i now gets the S68 true M engine. It’s a familiar one at 4.4TTV8 But now it’s got a 48V mild hybrid system integrated into it to help fuel economy but it ALSO has a fun little trick If you hold the downshift paddle you’ll enter “Sprint” mode which will dump an extra 40 electric hp into the car for 10 seconds of added pace. The electric energy is then almost immediately recouped and you can do it again - amazing! This M60i is obviously detuned compared to the M Compeition though Here you’re making 523 hp and 553 lbft And that’s good enough to do 0-60 in 4.1 seconds..allegedly less than half a second slower than the M Competition 5:26 - The new look I’ve said in last summer’s X5M comp video that I think the X5 is the best looking midsize SUV from the Germans and they’ve made some updates for the LCI year here and I still think that old statement holds true 7:11 - The New Interior design Of course the big story is the addition of iDrive 8 with it’s MASSIVE dual screens And they put almost everything in the screens including Wireless ACP Some of the best 360 cameras in the business Cool ambient light, though not as cool as Mercedes But now the heated steering wheel button is in the screen too and that’s mildly annoying On the M60 and M Comp it says M on the dash But you’ve also got crystal for your Start stop button Drive selector tab thing And iDrive wheel 8:18 - The Drive 9:43 - Luxuries You’ve got heated and cooled seats And you CAN option 8 way massage if you want You’ve got the heated steering wheel AND you can even get heated armrests…super cool You’ve got an awesome Harmon Kardon sound system as standard But you CAN upgrade to the crazy Bowers and Wilkins 4D audio And then my favorite thing…a pano roof But not JUST a pano roof…you can get the Skylounge roof that’s embedded with LEDs to simulate something similar to the ROlls Royce starry night headliner we just saw in the Ghost 10:26 - Trunk First of all, it’s nice a big - the PHEV will have a smaller trunk because they have to have some place to put the battery BUT on the whole it’s nice and big The seats do fold…but not from the back…annoying BUT the floor also comes up, which is pretty normal and you have a secret cubby BUT the cool thing is that you have a strut that will hold up the trunk floor…which i’ve never seen before and is certainly overkill, but kinda cool And ofcourse I love that it split folds as it has for decades..never change…also you can tow 7200 lbs 11:04 - Rear seats They’re spacious for legroom and headroom They’re a great material and have fancy stitching They can be heated And you get your own climate zone back here AND some shades And you get the travel screen thing where you can mount your iPad and plug it in right into the back of the front seat…clever - 11:43 - Conclusion

👋 In todays review we check out the all new 2024 BMW X5 xDrive40i! This trim level is one below the M50i but with tuning and some added parts, this can be quicker and just as fun for less money! The BMW X5 xDrive40i is powered by a 3L twin turbo inline six cylinder and now has an increase in power and definitely has great power delivery with the electric system! If you are looking for a family SUV, but you want power, performance and practicality, this is a great option! The exterior for this 2024 BMW X5 xDrive40i is finished off in white and has a great look! Paired with the wheels and even the beige interior, it's a nice spec! The interior also has very nice materials and trim accents throughout! It features the all new infotainment and gauge cluster screen and new shifter! The driving experience for this 2024 BMW X5 xdrive40i is very nice! As you would expect from BMW, it's comfortable, quiet and would be a great daily driver! The exhaust note too sounds great and I'm sure you could make it louder, which I would want to do! I'd love to own either the X5 or X3 at some point, because these are great SUV's for the money and offer a lot! There is also plenty of room for passengers and cargo so there is no shortage of space!
